Please keep the gate shut, to prevent sheep getting into the garden.

If you are in Bryn Teg during a spell of dry weather, it would be appreciated if you watered the tubs - use water from the rain water butt by the end of the cottage. there is a watering can in the adjacent stone lean-to.

There are some useful things - garden chairs &c. - in the shed (Tim: please could we have one of the photos!) at the top of the garden; the keys are on a nail in the stone lean-to. The drying racks for wet clothes are also kept in here.

== Eating out of doors and barbecuing ==

The paved area outside the back door is an OK place for out-of-doors eating. The big orange cushions from the smaller lounge bring the wooden bench up to something like the right height; the cushions on the futon in the twin bedroom are useful for the plastic chairs.

For the moment, the most convenient place to barbecue is on the sleepers to the left of the back door. Use the stones which are there to keep hot barbecues from damaging the sleepers. There are barbecue tools in the drawer in the scullery.

== Midges ==

Midges can be a nuisance when sitting or working in the garden, though not on the same scale as in [http://www.wyrdology.com/edinburgh/midges/index.html Scotland]. There are candles, aromatherapy oils, repellent &c. which might help in the downstairs toilet.

== Rubbish ==

The wheelie bin lives at the junction of the lane and the Bryn Teg track. Collection day is Wednesday so, if you are in Bryn Teg on Tuesday, please take the bin down to the bottom of the hill and put it by the side of the road. If you are here on Wednesday, then please bring it back up again.

Paper, cans and glass can be recycled locally - there are skips for this in the station car park. We recycle plastic bottles &c. by putting them in a box in the glass lean-to and taking it back to Manchester when it is full.

We would be pleased if you composted vegetable waste. The black tub by the sink in the kitchen can be used to collect scraps to be taken to the compost bin on the right-hand side of the garden, near the top.

[http://www.livedepartureboards.co.uk/virgintrains/summary.aspx?T=DWD Dolwyddelan] has a station on the [http://www.conwyvalleyrailway.co.uk/ Conway Valley Railway]; although the trains are [http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/uploads/documents/1120.pdf infrequent], travel from Manchester, London, Birmingham, Cardiff &c. is entirely feasible. Bryn Teg is about 10 minutes walk from the station:

* Leave the station by the lane past the school and then turn right, toward the centre of the village.

* Turn right at the crossroads, along the main A470.

* Go along this road past the Moriah Chapel and the Elen's Castle Hotel and, after seven more houses, turn left up a tarmaced lane, Allt Singrug.

* Bryn Teg is at the top of Allt Singrug, but note the warnings below!

There is a path across the field from the war memorial to the foot of Allt Singrug which cuts off a corner.

There are many more trains from Llandudno Junction; it takes about 35 minutes each way to take to, or collect from there. The taxi fare from Llandudno Junction to Dolwyddelan is about £40.

With some forward planning it is possible to holiday at Bryn Teg without a car. A shopping trip to Llanrwst is fairly convenient by train and the [http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/gwy_doc.asp?cat=2567&doc=13774&Language=1 Snowdon Sherpa] bus network gives access to the mountains and tourist hot spots of Snowdonia.

Bryn Teg's post code is LL25 0EQ so directions from anywhere in the UK can be obtained from [http://www.multimap.com Multimap] and, presumably, from satellite navigation kit - though we have not checked this out for ourselves! For those without access to these technologies, the cottage is about 200 metres off the A470 trunk road between Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog. More specifically, when travelling from Betws-y-Coed on the A470, watch out for the village name signs (there are two) and the 30mph sign. About 300m after this there is a narrow gap between the houses on the right. Turn into this lane, Allt Singrug, ignoring the ''Anaddas i Fodur/Unsuitable for Motors'' sign! Bryn Teg is at the top of this lane.

Allt Singrug is '''''extremely''''' steep and narrow and at the top there is a hair-pin bend into the track leading to Bryn Teg. We very strongly advise drivers not to attempt to drive up until they have walked up and checked what is involved. There is no street lighting so, if you arrive after dark, you will need a torch and should be prepared to carry basic over-night luggage up to the cottage, leaving full unloading until daylight.
